This Quick Transmigration Experience Is A Bit Sweet Chapter 13

Congrats to Leina and iika for getting the answer correct, so here's the next chapter as promised!

Fu Xin got out of bed with two large dark circles under his eyes.

He hadn't slept almost all night. As he was tossing and turning on his bed, his mind was full of the line, "The moonlight tonight is not bad". From earlier on, he wasn’t able to keep himself in bed, but he had to wait until the usual time Zong Yuan picked him up at.

After Fu Dong’qiang started working at the school, he went to work at eight o’clock but Fu Xin had to leave two hours earlier than that. The school principal was very easy going. After learning about Fu Dong’qiang’s situation, he gave him one month of salary in advance without questioning anything. Now that he had money, Fu Dong’qiang put a lot of effort into cooking.

Fu Xin looked at the food on the table that was prepared by Fu Dong’qiang, and recalled Fu Dong’qiang telling him behind his room door last night, "Son, remember to heat the food up tomorrow morning before eating."

He looked at the carefully wrapped food on the table with a complicated expression. Fu Dong’qiang's behavior in the past few days was indeed like a prodigal turning back to change his ways, but he still couldn’t believe it.

This decision to turn to repentance-- could this really happen to Fu Dongqiang?

When Zong Yuan saw Fu Xin, he was shocked, "What happened to you?"

With two large black circles on his young fair skinned face, his expression was sleepy and tired.

It was obvious that he didn't sleep well.

Fu Xin wished that he could grab him by the collar and ask him what he meant last night. In the end, he just submitted to depression and pinched Zong Yuan’s shirt. He got on the motorcycle and weakly said, "Okay."

If 0046 required sleep, it would probably be in the same state as Fu Xin right now, "Who told you to only speak half of what you intend to say, so detestable."

Fu Xin's heart was itching with curiosity; it was as if a cat was tickling it. He wrapped his arms around Zong Yuan's waist and his hands were draping loosely. Whether it was intentional or unintentional, every time it seemed like there was a bump on the ride, he came into contact with a sensitive area.

His own reaction was even more sharp and attentive. Every contact was like a dragonfly touching water1--- he immediately moved his hands away in less than a second.

Zong Yuan's brows furrowed deeply and the area between his eyebrows formed mountains and valleys. He pulled Fu Xin’s hands upward a bit, "Hold tight."

Fu Xin's face became flushed, but he still wore the two dark circles under his eyes, "What did you mean last night?"

Zongyuan spoke frivolously, "Guess"

Fu Xin said cautiously, "You don't."

He held his breath until Zong Yuan's voice made a sound, "No."

Fu Xin started to get excited. He looked at the back of Zong Yuan's helmet with longing eyes that had shyness hidden within them, "You like me."

Zong Yuan, "..." He chuckled quietly, his voice followed the wind and travelled into Fu Xin's ear, Fu Xin tightened his hands involuntarily, "What are you laughing about?"

Zong Yuan looked straight ahead, his expression that was hidden under his helmet was extremely relaxed, "Congratulations, Fu Xin."

Fu Xin's eyes lit up.

"Congratulations on guessing incorrectly."

"....” Fu Xin choked up a bit, "Then what did you want to say?"

"The moon, my friend," Zong Yuan hit the brakes abruptly. Out of habit, Fu Xin planted himself onto him and Zong Yuan turned sideways to support him by his shoulders.

People were coming and going by the school gate.

Zong Yuan used one hand to stabilize Fu Xin and used his other hand to take off his helmet. His  messy tousled hair danced and flew about. He lowered his head and spoke next to Fu Xin's ear. Fu Xin listened in a daze while feeling the itches of Zong Yuan's hair brushing against his cheeks. His pupils contracted sharply and then slowly, it started to sparkle with light.

Zong Yuan said, "Fool, what I said was that the moon is crooked, and I am also not straight."

He slowly added another sentence and his voice was deep and sexy, which stirred people's emotions and pulled on the heart, "So Student Fu Xin, you can start pursuing me now."

When Fu Xin came back to his senses, he saw Zong Yuan already casually pushing his motorcycle into the school.

He clutched onto his rapidly beating heart and his cheeks were dyed with a little blush. The gaze that watched the scenery with Zong Yuan in it seemed to overflow with water and entangle with Zong Yuan.

He quickly followed after.

Zong Yuan raised the corners of his mouth and 0046 murmured, “Such evil interests."

During class, Fu Xin kept staring at him while feeling troubled because he didn't know how to pursue people.

Zong Yuan rested his chin on one hand, and laid the other hand on the table casually. He felt that someone had secretly taken his pen out of his hand, then pulled his hand under the desk, and quietly placed his hand in his own.

Zong Yuan let him do whatever he wanted. He glanced from the corner of his eyes and saw that Fu Xin was staring at the blackboard solemnly; his delicate face seemed keen to learn as if he was a model student.

It was as if the guy that was holding onto his hand and stroking it with each individual fingers was not him.

Zong Yuan had a evil idea and drew out his hand cleanly, "Classmate Fu Xin, what are you doing in class?"

Fu Xin frowned, "You’re not going to sleep?"

He thinks I’m annoying? Zong Yuan raised his eyebrows, "Do you plan to do something bad while I sleep, hmm?"

Fu Xin's entire face and neck turned red, and his eyes were dodgy. He made a cute look with a guilty conscience of a thief 2, "N--no"

"Your words lack confidence," Zong Yuan commented while laughing. "Just do what you want to do," Zong Yuan said lightly, as if he was implying something, "it’s not like I’ll be the one that loses out."

Fu Xin looked at him blankly, and a faint light flashed quickly in his eyes, as if he did not understand Zong Yuan's meaning at all. Zong Yuan smirked, "Listen to class, dummy."

The days spent with the people one likes always went by very quickly. Fu Xin secretively browsed the web during computer class and wrote down a page’s worth of notes; all of which were methods for pursuing people but there were a few that he could not realize.

First, he wasn’t able to spend money, and Zong Yuan was not short of money.

Second, Fu Xin's face was blushed, so he couldn’t verbally deliver any of those flirtatious words that talked about love. They were all sensual words; so sensual that just reading it while thinking of Zong Yuan was enough to make him feel too excited for sleep.

So Zong Yuan awaited and awaited, but he still didn’t see Fu Xin's pursuit methods.

Zong Yuan, who has been pursued by countless people, wondered, "Does this kid think that running errands and pampering the person with solicitous inquiries3 is considered to be pursuing a person?"

Fu Xin gave him the math exercise he worked on and shyly asked, "Zong Yuan, there are a few questions that I don’t know how to do."

Even though Zong Yuan didn’t do anything, he appeared extremely embarrassed, and this look always made people want to tease him. Zong Yuan took the exercise paper and casually put it into his left hand. He looked at him, "You have nothing to say to me?"

Fu Xin recalled the pick up lines he read off the Internet, and swallowed, "For the two of us, how many bus fares would we love to buy?"

Zong Yuan smirked, "Six."

Fu Xin stared at the corner of his mouth and his eyes revealed uncontrollable intentions of love. His voice was nervous, "No, it's one."

"..." Zong Yuan licked his lips and had already guessed what the follow-up line was, but he still asked cooperatively, "Why?"

"Because we have a love a-fare (affair) going on between us4."

It cannot be denied that when reading about these corny flirts, they sounded fine in the head, but it was really awkward to say aloud.

Fu Xin blushed and his eyes glistened as he anticipated praise. Zong Yuan thought for a while, and felt that he had seen something similar before, "I’m going to change your name on my phone’s contact to “a job."

Fu Xin was dumbfounded, "Why?"

"Because," Zong Yuan said in a low voice, "one must do ‘a job’ and fall in love with ‘a job’5."

In a bang, Fu Xin's entire face became flushed.

He felt so lost and uncoordinated that he didn't know where to place his hands and feet. His head went blank and his whole body felt like it was struck by lightning. Nothing remained in him other than an itching and tingling sensation in his heart. He froze for a while before he stuttered and replied, "I-- I agree."

Zong Yuan chuckled loudly.

With the blind of an eye, Saturday arrived. He Xiu’xiu nervously moved around in the room and her parents asked her, "Are you certain that the student you were talking about has the surname ‘Zong’?”

He Xiu’xiu nodded, and said shyly, "Yes, he transferred over from the Capital. Mom, Dad, didn’t you say you were going to ask around, how was it, is his family background good?"

The He parents looked at each other, "There are many people with the surname Zong in the Capital, but there’s only one household among the prestigious families. We aren’t even able to get close to them but I heard that they do indeed have an 18 or 9-year-old son who is also in his senior year of high school."

He Xiu’xiu was excited and said confidently, "Then that's it."

Her mother was a little worried, "Daughter, it's not easy to climb up to a prestigious family like that, so just be friends, why bother with more?"

"Mom," He Xiu’xiu interrupted sharply, "don't anger me, if I really climbed up, wouldn’t it be better for you and my dad? See, Dad didn't say anything."

Her father nodded intently and his eyes were gleaming. He patted her mother's hand, "We shouldn’t interfere with our child’s business. Besides, our daughter is beautiful and reasonable; she can easily handle it even if there were severals of the same type, let alone just one Young Master Zong."

He Xiu’xiu showed a coy smile.

Her birthday was going to be at 3 pm this afternoon. She started doing hair and beauty treatments in the morning and she awaited for a glamorous scene in the afternoon. She hoped that she would succeed in one try.

Zong Yuan had almost forgotten about this, but Fu Xin mentioned it suddenly, "We have to attend He Xiu'xiu's birthday this Saturday."

Zong Yuan had a cigarette in his mouth and was too lazy to move, "You want to go?"

Fu Xin revealed a small smile, "I want to go."

Of course he wanted to go. He still remembered He Xiu'xiu's gaze that day--- jealous and cruel. She was indeed worthy of being the outstanding, beautiful and likeable class monitor. Even her expression of detest towards another person was so high and noble.

Fu Xin choked on the smell of smoke a few times, "Smoking is not good."

Zong Yuan pointed to the door, lazily, "Go over there and wait."

Fu Xin shut his mouth obediently. They were now in Zong Yuan's apartment. Even in a living as big as this, he insisted on sticking close to Zong Yuan.

Zong Yuan puffed out a cloud of smoke and he shifted himself to the side, but Fu Xin stuck to him like a piece of chewing gum. Feeling helpless, he tapped the ashes off the cigarette butt, "Hey, isn’t it hot to stick this close together?."

Fu Xin replied, "It's not hot."

Zong Yuan was not the type that likes to be clung onto. He had a few relationships for fun in the past but he felt they were all boring. In the end, he broke up in less than a few days. He hated when things remained static, he hated rigid routines, and he hated even more being controlled and pestered.

It stands to reason that Fu Xin hit a lot of these minefields, but strangely enough, not only did Zong Yuan not feel bored, but he sort of enjoyed teasing Fu Xin.

He patted his thigh and teased, "Why don't you come here to sit"

Fu Xin hesitantly said, "No, that’s not too good to do." Although he said that, he still got up without hesitation and intended to sit his butt onto Zong Yuan's lap.

"...” I was just kidding. Before Zong Yuan had time to say the next sentence, Fu Xin had already sat down. Zong Yuan quickly reached out his hand to stop him from sitting down but ended up holding up his bottom that was lowered down. His fleshy bottom jiggled on his hand.

Without even thinking, Zong Yuan squeezed it.

In the next second, the two people froze in place at the same time.

Translator’s Notes

  1. Dragonfly touching water 蜻蜓点水

This phrase describes the image of a dragonfly lightly touching the water’s surface with its tail. It is used to describe a light touch or to not complete things to the full extent.

  1. Guilty conscience of a thief 做贼心虚

It describes that when a person does something bad, they would feel and appear uneased and unconfident because they fear that someone would find out about what they did.

  1. Pampering the person with solicitous inquiries 嘘寒问暖

The literal translation means to blow warm air to warm up someone that is feeling cold. It means to ask another person how they are doing and to show them concern and care.

  1. The original joke only made sense in Chinese because it played on the idea that 一腿儿 means love affair but the literal meaning of the phrase is “one leg”. The original conversation appeared like this:

“Fu Xin remembered the pick up lines he read off the Internet, and swallowed, "Tell me, between the two of us, how many legs do we have?"

Zong Yuan smirked, "Six."

Fu Xin stared at the corner of his mouth and his eyes revealed uncontrollable intentions of love. His voice was nervous, "No, it's one."

"..." Zong Yuan licked his lips and already guessed what the follow-up line was but he still asked cooperatively, "Why?"

"Because we have a love affair/ one leg."

As you can tell, it doesn’t really make sense to the English reader, so I had to make up my own pun using the word love a-fare/ affair. Sorry for the lame joke…

  1. One must do ‘a job’ and fall in love with ‘a job 干一行, 爱一行

The actual meaning is “love whatever job one takes up”, but this translation does not adhere to the sentence structure and implicit meaning of the original line in Chinese. If you were thinking that “do a job” has a s*xual innuendo then you are correct and this is part of the joke that Zong Yuan made in Chinese.
